Dropbox for Passenger Vehicle Tab Renewals
If you’d like to save time and not wait in line, a dropbox is located outside the north entrance of the Courthouse and can be used for tab renewals. Your tabs will be mailed to you.
If your vehicle is due for replacement plates, which would be stated on your renewal notice, please visit the DVS office. We will not mail out license plate renewals.

What do I need to bring with to purchase tab renewals for the vehicle that I am the registered owner?
Bring in your renewal letter or old registration card, proof of insurance (including insurance company name, policy number, and policy expiration date), and driver’s license.
Can I buy registration tabs for a vehicle that’s not mine?
Yes, with a renewal notice letter and proof of insurance. A completed authorization form can be used if a renewal notice is not available.

Watercraft, Snowmobile, All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV)
and Off Road Vehicle (ORV)
Decals and registration cards are printed in our office. DNR vehicle licenses are valid for three years.
If you do not have the renewal notice and are not the registered owner, a completed consent form from the registered owner is required to renew registration.
A bill of sale is required when transferring ownership for a watercraft, ATV, ORV or snowmobile. Registration numbers are important to have as well.
Titles are issued on certain watercrafts. If a title has been issued, it is required to transfer ownership.
Special Vehicle Use Permits for Renville County roadway operations are issued in the Environmental Services Office.
