County Commissioner, District 1 – Craig Carlson

Commissioner Craig Carlson is a longtime Hector resident and former small business owner. In 1996, Craig and Jill founded Carlson’s Collision & Glass, Inc., growing it successfully before selling in August 2024. Craig’s business experience has taught him the value of a dollar, a perspective he’s eager to bring to the County Board. Outside of work, Commissioner Carlson enjoys off-roading, ATV riding, snowmobiling, fishing, and hunting. As a new commissioner, he looks forward to meeting community members and aiming to learn more about county government, with a focus on financials and human resources. He believes that success is built upon the foundation laid by others, and is always open to addressing issues, big or small. He’s committed to solving problems and supporting the county in any way he can.
County Commissioner, District 2 – John Robinson

Commissioner John Robinson grew up in Morton, Minnesota. He graduated from Morton High School and Willmar Vo-Tech and now lives in rural Franklin. Robinson and his wife, Sheila, have two daughters, and four grandchildren. He farms in Birch Cooley township and raises cattle. His children were active in 4-H; showing cattle for many years. Robinson began representing District 2 as a Renville County Commissioner in January of 2023. Prior to becoming a commissioner, he worked at Schult Homes for 35 years. Being the youngest of 10 children, Robinson knows what it’s like to work together and compromise. He will work to be fair on issues that arise for Renville County residents and employees.

Past service includes the Franklin City Council (eight years), the Renville County Planning and Zoning Committee (12 years), the Franklin Lions Club (Secretary and Gambling Manager), Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Franklin (Parish Council member and President), Morton and Franklin Fire Departments, and Morton First Responders.
County Commissioner, District 3 – Greg Mertens

Commissioner Greg Mertens brings a wealth of knowledge to his role as Renville County Commissioner. Living just outside Olivia with his wife, Dawn, Commissioner Mertens has raised three children who are now hardworking, kind, and active members of the community. His personal interests include woodworking, gardening, hunting, and growing grapes, but you might be surprised to learn he also enjoys snowboarding in his spare time! Driven by a passion for getting things done, Commissioner Mertens is committed to applying this same motivation to his work as County Commissioner. His focus is on practical solutions for the county, especially in areas such as improving road safety and controlling county spending.

Commissioner Greg Snow resides in the City of Olivia with his wife, Leigh Ann. They have four children: Ryan (21), Makayla (19), Leslie (16), and Kyleigh (11). Snow was raised in Silver Bay and St. Francis, Minnesota. He graduated from Pillsbury Baptist Bible College with a History Major and Sport Coaching Minor and is also a Professional Golfers of America graduate. Before moving his family to Renville County in 2011, when he accepted the Head Golf Professional position at the Olivia Golf Club, Snow worked as a history teacher and Head Golf Professional in northern Minnesota. Snow began representing District 4 as a Renville County Commissioner in January 2019.

Snow serves on the Minnesota Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) Section Board.

Past service includes the Deacon Board at First Baptist Church in Baxter, Minnesota and the Minnesota Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) Section Board from 2013-2018.
Interests:
Snow ran for County Commissioner purely out of love for this area and how much he and his family have appreciated what Renville County has done for them. He loves being part of well-run organizations and views Renville County as a great, well-run county that he appreciates being part of.

Commissioner David Hamre was born, raised and still lives on the Hamre Homestead Century Farm in Wang Township. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School and has been a life-long, self-employed farmer until his retirement in 2019. He and his wife, Andrea, have been married since 1984. They have two grown children, Karl [Christine] Hamre (and their children Lincoln and Eleanor) and Laura [Mitch] Agre (and their children Savannah and Jed). Hamre began representing District 5 as a Renville County Commissioner in January of 2021. He is always ready to listen to any thoughts and concerns and hopes to be a strong voice for the people of District 5 and all of Renville County.
