The Landfill does NOT provide dumpsters or roll-off boxes for rent. Contact a local Solid Waste Hauler for more information.
Household Hazardous Waste (HHW)
Household products that can present a hazard to our health and our environment when not properly used, stored, or disposed of, are considered Household Hazardous Waste (HHW). The Redwood and Renville County HHW Facilities accept hazardous waste from BOTH Redwood and Renville residents for FREE.
Hazardous business waste is not accepted. Call Lyon County Environmental Services at 507-532-8210 for business waste disposal options.

A product exchange room is operated out of the Redwood County HHW Facility and items are FREE to take and use!
- Open to Redwood AND Renville County residents only.
- Wide variety of paint, stain, aerosols, and cleaning products.
- New items added each time facility opens.

Hazardous Materials Required by Minnesota State Law to be Recycled
- Used Motor Oil & Oil Filters: Recycle at any place in MN that provides oil change services.
- Vehicle Batteries: Take to any business that sells auto batteries.
- Under MN State law, all places that sell lead-acid batteries are required to accept up to five used batteries per consumer, free of charge, whether you are a customer or not.
- Tires: Return to a tire dealer or take to the Renville Co. Demo. Landfill (pay fees at either).
- Fluorescent, LED or High Intensity Discharge Lamps: Take to Redwood or Renville County HHW facility. (If you live or operate a business in Redwood Falls, contact the city office at 507-616-7400).
- Mercury: Any product containing mercury that has not been removed can be dropped off at either HHW facility.
- Rechargeable Batteries: Drop off at either HHW Facility (alkaline batteries can be placed in garbage)
- Small Sealed Lead Acid (often labeled “PB-acid” or “lead acid”)
- Nickel Cadmium (often labeled “Ni-Cad”)
- Lithium (often labeled “Li”, “CR” or “BR”)
Renville County Landfill

Demolition Waste and Material Disposal
Clean demolition waste is general construction demolition material that does NOT include any plastic, clothing, chemical material, food and beverage waste, appliances or electronics, general garbage, yard, or household waste.
While the Renville County Demolition Landfill does NOT accept garbage for disposal, they do accept demolition waste and the following materials:
- Asphalt and blacktop
- Bituminous concrete
- Cabinetry (built-in)
- Ceramic items
- Concrete (including rebar)
- Small pieces and/or blocks
- Conduit and pipes
- Duct work
- Electrical wiring and components
- Glass (limited to window and door glass from buildings and structures)
- Insulation (includes fiberglass, mineral wood, cellulose, polystyrene and newspaper)
- Masonry (bricks, stucco and plaster)
- Metal
- Molded fiberglass
- Plastic building parts
- Plumbing fixtures
- Roofing materials
- Rubber (including conveyor belts and rubber membranes)
- Sheathing
- Siding (includes vinyl, Masonite, untreated wood, aluminum and steel)
- NO slate siding or any other kind that contains asbestos
- Stone
- Tile (ceiling tile, drain tile, ceramic, floor, vinyl)
- Wall board, sheet rock
- Wall coverings
- Windows (including screens)
- Wood and vinyl flooring
- Wood, untreated (including painted, stained and/or varnished dimensional lumber, wood only furniture, pallets, particle board, plywood, fencing and dock materials)

Garbage Disposal (Municipal Solid Waste/MSW)
If you live in a rural area, or city, without a garbage contract, contact a local solid waste hauler who may be able to supply you with a cart or dumpster. Contact the closest city clerk to your location inquire who their contracted hauler is for the best rate.
FAQ: Where can I dispose of my carpet and pad?
Carpet and padding are garbage can are NOT accepted at the landfill. Take them to the transfer station (907 West Bridge Street, Redwood Falls) or any landfill that accepts garbage.
REMINDER: It is illegal to burn and/or bury garbage.
The Renville County Landfill does NOT accept garbage (municipal solid waste).

Scrap Metal Disposal
A roll-off container is on-site at the landfill to take various types of scrap metal for FREE. (Be advised that we do not purchase scrap metal).
Please call the office at 320-523-1144 or stop in upon arrival, to let staff know you are here to dispose of scrap metal. We rely on honestly is the best policy and trust only items place in the box are on the acceptable metal items list.
The transfer station also accepts scrap metal.
