Renville County is pleased to announce we’ve been awarded a $345,000 Child Care Economic Development Grant from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) to address the critical child care shortage in our area.
The funding will be used to purchase, and repurpose, a wing of an assisted living facility in the City of Renville to create four Special Family Child Care units. This will allow four individually licensed family child care providers to provide care in a space other than their own home, and will add 40 child care slots in the first year with the potential to increase by eight more in year two.

The project is a collaborative effort involving the Renville County Housing and Redevelopment Authority and Economic Development Authority (HRA/EDA), Renville Health Services, and other local non-profit organizations.
This initiative exemplifies how public-private partnerships can create innovative, cost-effective solutions to alleviate the child care crisis in Renville County. By transforming existing infrastructure, it will create a sustainable solution that not only increases child care availability but also promotes local small business growth and supports our workforce.
The project is anticipated to commence this spring and reach completion by the end of 2025, delivering a significant positive impact on local families and the workforce.
