Renville County hosted the return of County Government Day on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, reestablishing a longstanding event that had not taken place since 2019. Participants included 36 students from the BOLD and BLH-S School Districts. Formerly known as Boys and Girls Day, the event had been organized for more than 50 years by the Renville County Veterans Association before its dissolution.
This year’s event marked a renewed commitment by Renville County and Olivia Hospital & Clinics to provide local high school juniors and seniors with a comprehensive understanding of county government and health care operations. Students participated in a full day of activities that included direct interaction with county departments, elected officials, local hospital representatives, and auxiliary and legion members.
Activities Included:
- Meeting with the judge and attorney to learn about court services
- Touring the Sheriff’s office and dispatch center
- Receiving a virtual tour of the jail
- Participating in a scavenger hunt to learn about county services
- Interacting with the Renville County Board of Commissioners
- Learning about blood types
- Learning about different types of hospital equipment
- Meeting with physical therapists and trying the therapy equipment
- Watching a demonstration of medical equipment that is used to save lives
Renville County extends its appreciation to all departments, partners, funders, and volunteers who contributed to the successful return of this impactful program. Plans are already underway to continue County Government Day in the years ahead, ensuring that local students remain engaged, informed, and connected to their community.
