Deputy Jacques’ squad vehicle is specially equipped with a compartment for Maverick to ride in. Deputy Jacques can remotely open Maverick’s door to release him if need be. In addition, the vehicle is equipped with safety equipment to prevent Maverick from becoming too warm in the summer months.

Maverick is with Deputy Jacques during all shifts and lives with Deputy Jacques and his family when they are not at work.

The Sheriff’s Office deploys Maverick for a variety of events, such as:

  • Safe School Searches
  • Traffic Stop Narcotic Searches
  • Service of Search Warrants
  • Recovery of Evidence
  • Community Education Demonstrations
  • Narcotic Sweeps of our Jail Facility
  • High-Risk Building Searches
  • Searches for Lost/Missing Persons
  • Searches for Suspects
K-9 History: Duke

Duke

In March 2013, the Renville County Sheriff’s Office acquired its first K-9, Duke.  At the time, Duke, a purebred German Shepherd, was only 14 months old.  Duke comes from a long ancestry of police dogs and his name was the result of a popular vote by elementary students in the schools in Renville County.

Deputy Luke Jacques was selected to be Duke’s handler and, following three months of specialized patrol and tracking training for both Duke and Deputy Jacques, in July 2013, the K-9 team began service to Renville County.

Duke retired in 2022 and now spends his days enjoying the good life with Deputy Jacques and his family!
