A Crime or Drug Activity

REPORT ALL CRIMES IN PROGRESS BY DIALING 911.

Otherwise, call our Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center at 320-523-1161.

  • You may report information about crimes to Renville County Crime Stoppers, a non-profit organization that focuses on crime prevention and works to assist law enforcement officers in Renville County with solving open cases.
  • Renville County Crime Stoppers maintains a toll-free number that “Tipsters” can use to provide information to police, while remaining completely confidential if they choose:

Monetary rewards are paid to informants, or “Tipsters”, if and when the information leads to the arrest and prosecution of those persons responsible for committing a crime.

Controlled Burn

A Controlled Burn

Renville County has implemented an implied burning permit policy. This means that a physical permit is no longer required to burn legal materials.

Renville County’s Open Burning Ordinance PDF

For those wishing to burn legal materials such as brush, tree trimmings, tree limbs, and unpainted/untreated lumber, simply notify the Sheriff’s Office – Dispatch at 320-523-1161 prior to starting the fire. If a burn ban is in effect, you will be instructed not to burn.

When you call, the Dispatcher will request the following information:

  • Your name
  • The location of the fire (section and township)
  • A contact phone number for the person attending the fire
  • A description of the materials being burned

According to Renville County’s ordinance, you are required to notify the Dispatch Center before starting a fire. If the fire will burn for multiple days, you must call each morning the fire continues to burn.

This requirement not only ensures compliance with county regulations but could also help you avoid the costs associated with a fire department response to an unreported fire.
